Does anybody know the definitive story regarding the capure of the current record ?

I was away at the time serving in the royal Navy, So I missed the story. Searching on the internet reveals little about the capture.

Did any of the weeklies or the better angling mags carry a feature for the 30th anniversary last year ?

Brian Crawford's book "Fishing for Big Eels" has the most thorough account that I have seen of the capture. There is a thread on here obout the book and availability (secondhand on e bay).

We can't post the details from Brian's book though...

copyright infringement.

I agree. It's very difficult to become a published author, especially in the minorities / hobby sector. John Sidley's re-printed book is marked at about £15.00 on E bay. I suspect you could be sitting on a small fortune Soupdragon.

Do we know when the Ricketts book is due to hit the shelves ?

medlar press say late autumn , and yes you could say that about a small fortune, but they were brought for the interest in angling not as a investment been collect angling books since the late 70s , when they were few and far between . one of my favorites is a signed copy of fred bullers pike book , when i was a mad keen esox angler that was the book to have ! times have moved on but the pictures of the famous loch ken pike heads spurred me on !

I have a photo of the lake when I was tench fishing this lake back in 1977. I was not fishing for eels or taking big fish seriously. Just wanted to go fishing and a group of us from the Rhondda travelled up for the weekend, Loads of tench, Tried for some carp but got smashed, Baits used were maggots, worms, sweetcorn, bread. But we caught no eels. The following year History was made. Now where is that photo
