I can't get hold off my old John Sidley eel hooks - so can you eel heads help me out with your views on eel hooks?.Unlike the Saint of Salt I need hooks as I can't charm them from the water.I see a lot of points on the forum regarding small hooks - not for me - small is too easy to swallow which in eel fishing is not good and I have never had a problem using 4's or 2's.I have and do use most modern carp hooks but can't find one I would use for eels - it could be my age but what do you boys think?

Theres a bloke who sells on ebay under the name Royd lures. He sells some carp hooks very cheap. I have found them excellent in every way. Wide gape for their size and very strong. But then again I only catch booties so there you go Regards Orbeel.

I use the Terry Eustace (GLT) continental Catfish penetrator hook and its never let me down. Very very sharp and ultra strong. Did use the Drennan boilie hooks but when i saw Terrys hooks there was no going back.

I have been using hooks made by Kensaki. A Japan Firm. They are marketed as a hook for Zander. Been using for the last 2 years. I have had eels up to 4lb 13ozs and the Wife has had them up to 5lb 4 ozs. Hook size 2 for deadbaits size 6 for Worms.

I am now using ESP raptor barbless T6s in size 7 for deads and worms - a small hook, but as I am no longer fishing the bait on the hook, but off the back of the hook, the size doesn't matter. With such a small hook, and because it is completely barbless, I feel comfortable that even the odd deeply hooked fish will cope. I've used these, although in bigger sizes, from when I started eel fishing, and heve yet to experience any problems.

If its any use I use Raptor big T's size 1 for all my eeling, strong as you want & can take a deadbait or a big bunch of worms, I'm not one for overcomplicating things,
