Went on one of my annual Conger trips Saturday hoping for a p.b but it wasnt to be, 50 miles out the sea was flat as a pancake. Managed 5 Eels 30lb, 45lb, 48lb, 52lb and 55lb plus an 18lb ling which took a chunk out of my finger, a conger would have took the whole finger. We managed a total of 40 eels and all but two were returned alive they were 65lb and 70lb i would have still returned them had they been mine, but years ago none of those eels would have been returned.

Nick a 93lb Conger is an awesome eel i dont even feel i can take the pee out of you for this so i wont. I have used Smuggler from Exmouth the Skipper Colin Dukes very good conger catcher, Anne Clare owned by Kevin Tate from Torquay is the boat i will be booking been with Kevin a few times on his old boat Dalora but the new boat is excellent. Sounds like it will be popular as i have a couple of names as definates already and its limited to 8.
steve.

if i lived closer to devon i would go more , always wanted to catch a conger and i caught 1 first time out about 30lb , have been now about 8 times and never blanked for those who have never caught 1 they are in for a treat , have had bleak give a bigger pull on quiver tip than a conger bite but thats the only time they act small , def put name down ,

I am a definite for the trip Steve. Please put my name down. Will 3 oz leads and 30lb braid be up to the job, do you think?

Mark 3oz leads and 30lb braid will be fine , but once we have caught the Mackerel you will need to put on 80lb braid 50lb leader 10/0 hook to a 300lb mono trace and a 16oz lead, then attach a butt pad and shoulder harness to you body fix your rod and reel to this and add one angry 6 foot plus slab of muscle determined to drag you into Davey Jones locker and your set! :)
Nick i too have never blanked on a conger trip if you get the location right they are most obliging and very addictive and dont they hang on unlike Pollack, Cod and Ling they fight right up to the boat and beyond and as they can equalise their body they are the only fish that can be safely returned to a deepwater wreck.
We now have 4 definates John Davis, Nick Duffy, Mark Salt and myself shaping up to be a good trip if you guys would prefer two days congering on the Saturday and Sunday staying in B&B at Torquay it might make the long trip down more worthwhile?
regards Steve.

If there is room for a bloke in a pink suit, please count me in. I've thrown up on boats from Brixham, Torquay and Minehead catching straps, so I feel I'm overdue a big 'un!
